Pioneerof the Nile filly wins Delaware Oaks prep

WinStar Farm’s Dark Nile notched her first career stakes victory in Thursday’s  $50,000 Our Mims S. at Delaware Park, setting up the 3-year-old Pioneerof the Nile filly for a potential start in the $300,000 Delaware Oaks (G3), run on July 9.

Dark Nile’s win came at the expense of pacesetter Browse, who made all the running but could not hold off the strong stretch run of Dark Nile, who would go on to a three-quarter length victory in the 1 mile and 70 yard contest (VIDEO).

“If she comes back well, we will consider it,” said trainer Arnaud Delacour of the Oaks. “We have plenty of options with her, but the Delaware Oaks would be a nice place to comeback because she likes the track.”

Prior to Thursday’s win, Dark Nile had open-length wins in a Tampa Bay Downs maiden race and an allowance at Penn National. Her overall mark now stands at 3-0-1 in four starts.

Dark Nile joins Midnight Storm, who won the $400,000 Shoemaker Mile (G1) and Eighth Wonder, winner of the $100,000 Jostle S. as June stakes winners by Pioneerof the Nile.
