Post 3 for Creator in Kentucky Derby 142

WinStar Farm’s Creator drew post 3 for Saturday’s $2 million Kentucky Derby (G1) when entries were drawn on Wednesday afternoon at Churchill Downs.

The dappled-gray 3-year-old has looked superior in his morning gallops at Churchill since shipping to Louisville off his scintillating score in the April 16 Arkansas Derby (G1), where he closed from last with just three furlongs to run to score by 1 1/4-lengths.

Creator, a son of Tapit out of the Privately Held mare Morena (PER), was purchased by WinStar out of the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling sale.

He’s trained by recent Hall of Fame inductee Steve Asmussen, who recently said that the colt took a while to break his maiden, including a frustrating series of seconds, but has really blossomed recently, capped by his big victory at Oaklawn.

“Creator, he’s kind of out the back early,” said Asmussen of the colt’s post position. “He won’t have a long ways to go left to find the fence early.”

As he has been in the majority of his races, Creator will be ridden by Ricardo Santana, Jr.

The Kentucky Derby is race 12 on Saturday, with a scheduled post time of 6:34 p.m. ET. NBC television coverage runs from 4 – 7:30 p.m.
