Winning Prize (ARG), a multiple Group 1 winner in his homeland, took to the Del Mar turf in his first U. S. start, zipping through the one-mile allowance test in 1:32.96, less than a second off the track record (VIDEO).
The 4-year-old by Pure Prize was a four-length winner in gate-to-wire fashion, setting a pressured pace of :46.21 seconds for the half-mile, shaking off several challengers before drawing off impressively in the lane.
Winning Prize has now earned $213,340, with a record of 6-1-0 in nine starts. After being conditioned in South America by Nicolas Ferro, he is trained by Neil Drysdale for co-owners David Heerensberger and Jose Nelson.
