Revolutionary draws ‘ideal’ post 3 for Kentucky Derby 139

A cheer went up from the crowd when Revolutionary’s name was called for post 3 at Wednesday afternoon’s draw for Saturday’s $2 million Kentucky Derby (G1).

WinStar Farm is looking for a repeat of the 2010 Derby, when they won the 136th renewal of the Run for the Roses with Super Saver and Revolutionary’s trainer/jockey tandem of Todd Pletcher and Calvin Borel.

“I’m happy with (the draw). Calvin is going to want to get to the inside with this horse as soon as he can and drawing inside like this only makes it easier for him,” said Pletcher.

Revolutionary, a generous 10-1 on the morning line, turned in his final pre-Derby work last Saturday, going four furlongs in a swift :48 1/5 seconds. The son of War Pass is two-for-two this year, with dramatic wins in both the Withers S. (G3) and Louisiana Derby (G2). He has earned $788,500 in six starts.

WinStar purchased Revolutionary for $235,000 out of the 2012 OBS March Select Sale of 2-year-olds. The dark bay colt is out of Runup the Colors, winner of the Grade 1 Alabama S. and Delaware Oaks.

The 11th race on the card, the Kentucky Derby will run Saturday at approximately 6:24 p.m. ET.
