Reynaldothewizard kicks off 2015 with win in Dubawi S.

Speightstown’s venerable sprinter Reynaldothewizard rolled to an emphatic 3 ¾-length win in the $150,000 Dubawi S. Jan. 15 at Meydan Racecourse.

Winner of the 2013 Golden Shaheen (G1), Reynaldothewizard has bankrolled over $1.7 million as is Speightstown’s leading lifetime earner.

The Dubawi, run at 1,200 meters (about six furlongs), was Reynaldothewizard’s first step on what is planned to be a repeat attempt in the Shaheen. The 9-year-old made his first start of 2015 look easy despite some traffic trouble at the head of the lane, where he had to wait then split horses before drawing off with authority.

“He did two unusual things tonight,” trainer Satish Seemar commented. “He is not usually (at his best) on his first outing and he was running on dirt when he’s been used to the all-weather. I know he has form on the dirt from America, but he looked to be one or two lengths better on the dirt than he was on the all-weather.”

As for what’s next, Seemar continued, “We might only look at a Super Saturday (Feb. 28) outing before going back to the Dubai Golden Shaheen on Dubai World Cup day (March 28).”
