Romped gives Commissioner another debut winner

Romped withstood a stiff challenge by Deacon in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight 2-year-old affair to defeat his foe by a neck July 3 at Indiana Downs.

The dark bay colt is Commissioner’s fourth first-crop winner, tying him for third-most to date by any freshman sire, with all four coming in maiden special weights.

Dueling the entire way, Romped first was head-to-head with More Than Charming, then after putting him away in upper stretch, fought with Deacon the rest of the way before gamely prevailing.

Romped is owned by Elliott Ventures and Bruce Murphy and was bred in Kentucky by Bill & Phyllis Adair and Connie Brown.

Romped’s dam Make Contact was a six-time stakes winner and has produced the stakes winner Island Rain among her five winners.
