Shanghai Bobby finalist for 2yo male Eclipse

Shanghai Bobby’s victory in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) capped off a perfect year for the son of Harlan’s Holiday, making him a leading candidate of the three finalists for the 2-year-old male Eclipse Award. The Eclipse Award winners will be announced Jan. 19 at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla.

Harlan’s Holiday finished 2012 as the nation’s leading sire of 2-year-olds, with more than $2.9 million in progeny earnings. He also is also in the top 5 in the categories of winners, stakes winners, and stakes horses. Harlan’s Holiday will stand the 2013 season at WinStar for $35,000 LFS&N.

Shanghai Bobby, a $105,000 Keeneland September yearling buy bred in Kentucky by Stonehaven Steadings, earned $1,687,000 in 2012. He is owned by Starlight Racing, Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith.

Besides the Breeders’ Cup, signature wins for Shanghai Bobby came in the Champagne S. (G1), Hopeful S. (G2) and Track Barron S., plus a maiden debut victory to make him a perfect 5-for-5 for the year.
