Sharp Santa Anita MdSpWt score for Hold Me Back colt

Commute drew away in the Santa Anita stretch on Sunday to register a 2 ¼-length victory in a 6 ½-furlong maiden special weight contest for 3-year-olds.

Hold Me Back, who was bred to 100 mares in 2014, had a 2-year-old sales average of 8.5x his stud fee of $5,000. Commute himself was a $50,000 yearling buy at the 2013 OBS Yearling sale, where he was bought by his owner Gabe Grossberg.

Commute was in good position in third early, but got into some traffic trouble and shuffled back to fifth on the turn. Elvis Trujillo took the bay colt around the frontrunners, bounding past the frontrunners with authority and strode out to an impressive win.

The final time of 1:15 1/5 was good for a very solid Beyer Speed Figure of 85.

Commute, the second foal out of the Distorted Humor mare Royal Humor, earned $33,600 for the win.
