Six-figure colts for Gemologist at Fasig-Tipton July sale

Gemologist’s first yearlings at the July 9 Fasig-Tipton July yearling sale in central Kentucky included a pair of six-figure colts. With a total of five lots sold, the WinStar stallion averaged $78,000, more than five times his stud fee of $15,000.

Gary Broad secured hip No. 288 with a winning bid of $112,000 from the Eaton Sales consignment. The colt’s dam won the Vinery Madison S. (G1) at Keeneland and was also multiple graded-placed. The bay colt is her second foal.

Summerfield consigned hip No. 322, which went for an even $100,000 to SBM Training and Sales. The colt’s dam Gem’s Classy Lass is a half-sister to grade 3 winners The Seven Seas and Royal Gem.

Gemologist’s next yearlings scheduled to sale are at the Aug. 10-11 Saratoga Selected Yearlings sale and the Aug. 15-16 Saratoga New York Breds Preferred Yearlings sale.
