Speedmeister zips to victory in Keeneland debut

Speedmeister, a 2-year-old Bodemeister colt, found the Keeneland winner’s circle in his debut Oct. 9, winning a seven-furlong maiden special weight affair by a widening 4 1/2-lengths.

Speedmeister is Bodemeister’s seventh winner for the top-10 Freshman Sire, and in a testament to the quality of his first crop of runners, all have come in maiden special weights.

Sitting just a few lengths off the pace early on, Speedmeister took command at the top of the stretch and pulled clear in the lane to get the distance in a solid 1:23.18 on a fast track (VIDEO).

The winner is trained by Mark Casse for John Oxley and was bred in Kentucky by Justin and Kalvert Spaeth. Casse was the winning bidder for the dark bay colt, at $650,000, at the Fasig-Tipton March 2-year-old in Training Sale following his Under Tack breeze of 10 seconds flat.
