Speightstown leads way with 16 SW

Weekend Hideaway’s victory in the $100,000 David S. [VIDEO] on Aug. 29 at Saratoga put Speightstown atop the 2012 General Sire list with 16 stakes winners this year. Speightstown’s black-type winners have accounted for 19 stakes wins in 2012, including Grade 1 winners Golden Ticket (last weekend’s Travers S.) and Poseidon’s Warrior (Aug. 5 Alfred Vanderbilt H.).

Speightstown’s progeny have earned $6.53 million, which also puts him in the second slot among all North American sires.

Two-year-old Weekend Hideaway was much the best in the six-furlong David, winning by 6 1/4-lengths after drawing off in the stretch following a duel through the first half-mile. The chestnut colt got the six furlongs in a crisp 1:09.89 on the fast track.

Weekend Hideaway was was purchased by his owner Red and Black Stable from the Flying Zee Stable dispersal in Oct. 2011. He is the only foal out of Apocalyptical, who comes from the same family as the multiple graded stakes winner Screen King.
