Spirited bidding yields $650,000 Carpe Diem colt at Gulfstream 2yo Sale

The fireworks started early for Carpe Diem at Wednesday’s Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Sale of 2-year-olds
when hip No. 5 sold for $650,000 to Katsumi Yoshida after a spirited bidding battle.

The muscular chestnut had worked a lively eighth-mile in :10 1/5 seconds during last week’s Under Tack show.

Consigned by Cary Frommer, agent and bred by Foxpointe Thoroughbreds, the colt was one of the top 10-priced males of the sale.

Out of the Smart Strike mare Brampton, the colt descends from the same family as champion and Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner Accelerate and Grade 1 winner Wagon Limit.

Carpe Diem, a Grade 1 winner at two himself, will be represented by his first crop to race this Spring. He has a pair of juveniles in the April 9 Keeneland 2-year-old sale.
