Spring at Last 2YOs 1-2 at Colonial Downs

The early runners from the first crop of Spring at Last have their sire tied for the top spot on the Freshman Sire list with four winners and in the top 5 in earnings with $83,221.

Friday night at Colonial Downs, a pair of fillies by the Grade 1 winning millionaire finished 1-2 over going five furlongs in a maiden special weight contest. The Larry Johnson homebred A Lover’s Question dominated the affair, going right to the front and opening up by eight lengths before gearing down to win by 5 3/4-lengths. Runner-up Hemisphere was in third for most of the trip and closed very well to make up three lengths in the stretch to earn the place spot.

Johnson said afterward that A Lover’s Question could make her next start in the $50,000 Chenery S. against colts, also at Colonial, on July 21. Johnson’s filly is now 1-1-0 following a good second-place finish in her debut at Colonial two weeks ago.

A Lover’s Question is out of Kelly’s Question, who has produced five winners from as many foals. Her 2009 foal Harbingerofthings broke his maiden in last year’s Jamestown S.
