Spring At Last exacta in OBS filly stakes

The daughters of Spring At Last ran one-two in the $100,000 OBS Championship S. for 3-year-old fillies as the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company hosted its annual Day of Champions race card on March 11.

In the 1 1/16-mile test, Spring Venture tracked the early pace in second before taking command going to the far turn. After clearing off by a length and a half, she was challenged through the lane and actually was headed by both Spring in the Air and Toasting. Not to be denied, Spring Venture surged in the final yards to out-duel Spring in the Air by three-quarters of a length.

The winner, supplemented to the race, completed the distance in 1:44.80 on a fast track. Sold by Eisaman Equine, Agent, at the 2012 OBS June Sale for $320,000, Spring Venture is now 4-0-0 in six starts and has earned $376,821.

Spring in the Air, bred by WinStar Farm, sold for $130,000 at the OBS 2-year-old Select sale one year ago. Winner of Keeneland’s Alcibiades S. (G1) last fall, Spring in the Air is 2-3-0 in six starts, earning $451,519.

The nation’s second-leading first-crop sire of 2012, Spring At Last was the only freshman sire to have graded stakes winners on all three surfaces. He is standing this year at WinStar for $15,000 LFS&N.
