After dueling through a rapid quarter-mile in :21.87, Competitive Edge began to creep away from King Rontos midway on the turn. "He has never disappointed us in anything that he has done, literally, from the first time we breezed him," winning trainer Todd Pletcher commented. "He continually showed us he's a very talented colt, and every time we did something with him it was impressive. So we had high hopes coming into today. Pletcher said Competitive Edge’s next target will be the Grade 1 Hopeful S., Sept. 1 at Saratoga.
Owned by Nancy Favreau & Kathy Psoinos, Competitive Edge picked up $49,800 for the victory.
