Trio of six-figure Gemologist yearlings at OBS Select sale

Gemologist, the leading freshman sire at the OBS April Sale, was again at the top of the list for first crop sires for the Select session of the OBS August Yearling sale, with three lots bringing at least six figures on Tuesday, the first day of the Aug. 23-25 sale.

Leading the way was a $150,000 colt, hip No. 245 consigned by Select Sales and purchased by H. H. agent. The colt’s deep female family is highlighted by his third dam, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) winner Twilight Ridge.

Nearly on even terms with the top price was hip No. 184, a colt consigned by Beth Bayer that went to St. Elias for $145,000. The colt’s dam has produced the stakes winner Here’s Johnny and Glitter City, as well as the graded stakes-placed Wild Forest Cat, dam of Grade 3 winner Toews On Ice.

Dark Star Thoroughbreds consigned hip No. 149, which sold to Erich Brehm for $100,000. The colt’s dam Wickedly is a half-sister to Noble’s Promise, winner of the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) at Keeneland and earner of more than $1.1 million.
