Two Last Words is first winner for WinStar Farm’s Commissioner
Friday, May 31, 2019
Two Last Words, a 2-year-old by WinStar Farm’s multiple Graded stakes winner Commissioner, won at first asking at Indiana Grand on Friday, becoming his sire’s first winner.

Owned by Deann Baer and bred in Indiana by Deann and Greg Baer, Two Last Words broke alertly under jockey Jose Riquelme and challenged for early supremacy in the five-furlong maiden special weight. He edged clear from his rivals in the lane, drawing away late to score by 2 ¼ lengths for trainer Tim Glyshaw. Two Last Words is produced from the Fusaichi Pegasus mare My Peg and debuted off a steady series of drills at Churchill Downs and Indiana Grand.

“The neat thing about the Commissioners is the speed they are showing at the 2-year-old sales,” said WinStar’s Elliott Walden. “And now having his first winner going five furlongs in maiden special weight company, being by A.P. Indy, they can only get better.”

The regally-bred Commissioner, the last Classic-placed son of breed-shaping sire A.P. Indy, is out of Graded producer and stakes winner Flaming Heart, by Touch Gold. His active female family includes half-brothers Intrepid Heart, who is making his next start in the Belmont S. (G1) after finishing third in the Peter Pan S. (G3), and Graded winner Laugh Track. Commissioner’s half-sister, Mythical Bride, is the dam of recent Gold Cup at Santa Anita S. (G1) winner Vino Rosso.

Commissioner was a three-time Graded stakes winner, having captured the Hawthorne Gold Cup (G2), the Pimlico Special S. (G3) and the Skip Away S. (G3). He nearly won the 2014 Belmont S. (G1) after setting all the pace before finishing a close second. Commissioner is represented in the sales ring this year with first 2-year-olds up to $475,000, $450,000, etc.
