Two new stakes horses for More Than Ready

With a 1-3 finish in the $100,000 Sweetest Chant S. Sunday at Gulfstream Park, Ready to Act and Room Service gave More Than Ready his first stakes winner of 2014 and added two new black-type performers to the impressive list of the international champion sire.

The new stakes winner is career #128 and the stakes-placed runner is career #240 for More Than Ready.

The Sweetest Chant was contested at a mile on the turf, and Ready to Act was sent off the 9-5 favorite n the field of eight 3-year-old fillies. After a sharp break, the gray or roan filly trained by Chad Brown took back into third. Javier Castellano moved the 9-5 favorite off the rail near the end of the backstretch to mount his charge for the lead.

In the three path around the turn, she wore down pacesetter Party Now to win by a half-length. It was another three parts of a length back to Room Service, who charged down the middle of the track late.

The final time for mile on the firm turf was 1:36.97.

“(S)he’s got so much talent. When the horse came back she took off again and galloped out beautifully,” said Castellano. “I loved having the inside post because she likes to be covered up a little bit. When she saw daylight she took off. On the first turn (at Gulfstream) it’s very important to save ground, especially on the turf. Turning for home, when I put her outside, she showed she was much the best horse. I give the credit to Mr. Brown because he did a great job with her.”

Ready to Act is now 2-1-0 in five starts, earning $116.651 for Klaravich Stables Inc. and William H. Lawrence. Ready to Act is the first foal out of Always Auditioning, who is a full sister to Hollywood Gold Cup (G1) winner Mast Track.
