Two turns suits latest Bodemeister winner

Dharmaster made his two-turn debut Feb. 17 at Laurel Park, with the 3-year-old son of Bodemeister coming away with a one-length victory.

The colt is Bodemeister’s second maiden special weight winner of the week at Laurel. Bodemeister’s first crop, which are 3-year-olds of 2017, have gotten off to a strong start in the first six weeks of the year, with a trio of stakes horses, led by Sham S. (G2) runner-up American Anthem.

Dharmaster stalked in second for six furlongs, then took over from Clubman, only to have Royal Hussar pass the new leader in upper stretch. Dharmaster dug in and fought back to regain the lead in the final sixteenth to win the 1 1/16-mile contest in 1:45.97.

Dharmaster is the second foal out of the stakes winner Tensas Punch and sold for $150,000 at the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling sale to his owners Harry and Tom Meyerhoff.
