Well-bred Super Saver colt gets first stakes win in 2019 debut

Hawaiian Noises, who had been off since December 13, started off 2019 in style with a gallant effort in the Animal Kingdom S. Saturday at Turfway Park, winning the race-long duel with Thunderous Gem to score by three-quarters of a length.

The 3-year-old Super Saver colt won two of three starts last year and is now three for four lifetime, with earnings of $83,465 for breeder/owner/trainer Wesley Ward.

Running in a driving rainstorm, Hawaiian Noises was off a beat slow but recovered through the first quarter mile to be within a length of the lead. He got alongside Thunderous Gem in the middle of the turn, then outfought the filly to the wire to get the 6 1/2-furlongs in 1:18.61.

Hawaiian Noises is out of Lastofthesummerwine, whose offspring include Play the King S. (G2) winner Conquest Pantera and multiple Grade 3 winner Happy Like a Fool.

Super Saver’s 3-year-olds have performed exceptionally early in 2019, with Super Steed taking the $500,000 Southwest S. (G3), So Alive placing in the Sam F. Davis (G3), and the filly Marathon Queen finishing second in the Martha Washington S.
