WinStar Farm sets 2017 stud fees

WinStar Farm announced 2017 stud fees for its 22-stallion roster on Saturday, again headed by Pioneerof the Nile who will stand for a fee of $110,000 S&N this upcoming breeding season.

“This year has been another exceptional year for WinStar stallions, and we continue to be extremely proud of their success across the board, both on the racetrack and in the sales ring,” said Elliott Walden, WinStar President & CEO. “There are as many as 25 WinStar-sired horses running in this year’s Breeders’ Cup, including some of the respective favorites in the Juvenile and Juvenile Fillies with Pioneerof the Nile’s Classic Empire and Gemologist’s Yellow Agate and, maybe, Theory. So the present and future are both very bright, and our mission is to continue to offer breeders stallions of the highest quality.”

After siring the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years with American Pharoah in 2015, Pioneerof the Nile continued to emerge as a leading sire on the racetrack and in the sale ring in 2016. Led by Grade 1 winner Midnight Storm and 2-year-old Grade 1 winner Classic Empire on the track, Pioneerof the Nile ranks No. 5 among North American sires at the yearling sales this year with a $255,863 avg. from a $20,000 bred-on fee in 2014.

Perennial top sire Speightstown also enjoyed another strong year both on the track and in the sale ring, ranking among the top General Sires and top Juvenile Sires in North America. Speightstown is No. 4 by yearling average ($324,603) among North American sires, making WinStar the only farm with two stallions in the Top 5 in 2016. Speightstown’s fee will remain at $100,000 S&N.

Distorted Humor was led this year by his 18th Grade 1 winner, Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) contender Joking, as well as leading Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) contender Ironicus.  The former champion Freshman Sire and champion General Sire will stand for $80,000 S&N in 2017.

Top sire Tiznow will stand for $60,000 S&N after siring his 14th Grade 1 winner this year with Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) contender Tourist. He will be joined by More Than Ready, who moves to $60,000 S&N for 2017 after siring his 22nd Grade 1 winner globally. In America, More Than Ready will be represented in this year’s Breeders’ Cup by 2016 Graded winners Tom’s Ready, Boynton, and Made You Look, as well as blacktype winner Miss Southern Miss.

Another mover on the WinStar roster is Tiznow’s rising freshman sire Gemologist, who will stand for $25,000 S&N after siring multiple top 2-year-olds including undefeated Frizette S. (G1) winner & Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) contender Yellow Agate and undefeated Futurity S. (G3) winner & possible Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) contender Theory.

WinStar welcomes three new stallions to its roster, led by three-time Grade 1-winning 3-year-old Exaggerator. A frontrunner for this year’s Eclipse Award for Champion 3-Year-Old Male, the classic-winning son of Curlin will stand his first season at stud for a fee of $30,000 S&N.

Outwork, the Grade 1-winning 3-year-old from the first crop of sire sensation Uncle Mo, has joined the stallion ranks at WinStar and will stand for a fee of $15,000 S&N, along with Speightstown’s leading sprinter/miler son Speightster who will stand new for $10,000 S&N.
