WinStar-sired 2yos shine at Saratoga

A pair of 2-year-old fillies by WinStar stallions More Than Ready and Congrats tallied maiden special weight wins Sunday, both in their career debuts.

Tammy the Torpedo, by More Than Ready, got the action started in the third race, a mile and a sixteenth contest on the turf. The 2-1 favorite, trained by Chad Brown, powered from fifth to first in upper stretch, and won going away by 3 1/4-lengths (VIDEO).

Tammy the Torpedo, bred in Kentucky by William Harrigan, is owned by Long Lake Stable LLC. The dark bay filly is out of Search and Seizure, a half-sister to multiple Grade 3 winner Criminologist. Tammy the Torpedo was a $225,000 purchase at this April’s OBS Spring 2-year-old sale.

Two races later, Top Decile gave Congrats his sixth 2-year-old winner of 2014 with a one-length win going 6 1/2-furlongs on the main track. The chestnut dueled most of the trip with Ring Knocker, edging away in upper stretch to put away her stubborn foe (VIDEO).

Clarkland Farm bred Top Decile in Kentucky. She is owned by Klaravich Stables and William H. Lawrence, who were the winning bidders for the filly, at $110,000, at the 2013 Keeneland September Yearling sale.
