Woodwin W runs undefeated streak to four in James Murphy S.

More Than Ready’s Woodwin W remained unbeaten with a tough three-quarter length victory in the $100,000 James Murphy S. Saturday at Pimlico. The win was the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old, who is one of nine stakes winner this year by his sire.

Winner of a maiden special weight and a pair of turf allowances, Woodwin W overcame a wide trip in the Murphy, coming from third at the top of the stretch to take the lead from Bluegrass Singer and then holding sway over Force the Pass late to get the mile in a very quick 1:34.32 on the firm turf.

“We were pretty confident coming into the race,” said trainer Jamie Ness. “(Jockey) Jevian (Toledo) had ridden him before and so far he’s won every race. I told him to keep him close up and if he didn’t do well it would be my fault. This is the first horse for these owners and they came up from Florida to see today’s race. We haven’t decided where to go with him next.”

Woodwin W upped his earnings to $114,540 for owner Woody Weeks.
