Our panel of experts selected 32 First Recruits from photos of Colonel John foals sent in by their owners. Why 32 First Recruits? This is the first crop of Colonel John foals to be born. The stallion was named after
John Geider, a Colonel in the US Army, who had 32 men in his platoon.

Who are the Panel of Experts?

Our panel of experts are shown below from right to left, including Tom Thornbury, Associate Director of Sales at Keeneland, former jockey turned NBC and ESPN analyst Donna Brothers, and Dan Pride, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Fasig Tipton.

The experts met at WinStar Farm to judge the new recruits and select the 32 foals to enter the Platoon. The mare names and owners identities were not made known to the judges and are not available here.
