$400,000 colt sets tone for Constitution Friday at Keeneland

Leading First-Crop sire Constitution’s first offerings at the Sept. 9-22 Keeneland Yearling sale came on Friday, with a $400,000 colt topping the day that saw all of his lots bring at least 11 times his stud fee.

The $400,000 colt, already named Citizen Soldier, was cataloged as hip No. 878 and consigned by Hunter Valley Farm, agent, with J. Stevens Bloodstock agent the winning bidder. The colt’s dam La Belle has already produced five winners from as many starters, including Arlington-Washington Lassie S. winner She’s Offlee Good.

Speightstown has a total of 49 lots remaining in the two-week sale. His average to date is $241,250, 16 times his stud fee of $15,000.

On the racetrack, Constitution’s first crop of runners includes graded stakes winners Amalfi Sunrise (G2 Sorrento S.) and By Your Side (G3 Sanford S.) among his 10 individual winners, all who won maiden special weights.
