$700,000 Pioneerof the Nile colt tops Keeneland Sunday session

Though he was the second-to-last horse to sell Sunday, Pioneerof the Nile’s hip No. 1816 would end up being the top price of the day during Sunday’s session of the Keeneland September Yearling sale.

When the gavel fell, Tom Haughey, on behalf of PTK, LLC, was the winning bidder at $700,000, nearly $300,000 more than any other lot offered Sunday.

The colt is out of Running Creek, an unraced daughter of Cape Town whose foals include the multiple stakes winner Softly Lit and stakes-placed Venice Queen.

With Sunday’s session complete – the sixth day of the sale – Pioneerof the Nile has had a total of 29 lots sell for an average of $278,103. The sale runs through September 25.
