Artie Schiller 2YO gets black type win in first attempt

Artie B Good closed resolutely down the stretch to capture the $50,000 Jess Jackson Juvenile S. at Santa Rosa by one length, marking the first stakes attempt and victory for the 2-year-old Artie Schiller colt.

The bay juvenile was near the back of the compact field early on, but ranged up on the leaders entering the stretch and overpowered Mesa Jones late to get the six furlongs in 1:10.81.

The winner, who broke his maiden in his debut on July 16, is now 2-for-2 and has earned $47,600 for owner Joe Morey, Jr. Artie B Good was bred in Kentucky by Paul Tackett and is the first foal out of Joonbi, who won nearly $200,000.

Artie Schiller has 10 stakes horses to date in 2017 on three continents, while his lifetime black type horses number 69 with over $39 million in earnings.
