Carpe Diem’s Historically an easy winner of the Cleveland Gold Cup

Historically tallied his first stakes victory in Saturday’s $75,000 Cleveland Gold Cup, drawing off in the stretch to come home a three-length winner in the 1 1/8-mile contest at Thistledown.

Historically, a 3-year-old son of top-10 Third-Crop sire Carpe Diem, is owned and bred by WinStar Farm and Blazing Meadows Farm.

Historically broke very well and was vying for the lead going into the first turn, but backed off when Uptown was intent on getting to the front going to the backstretch. Uptown opened up by three lengths before Historically began to cut into the margin on the turn. The pair hit the homestretch together before Historically put him away and pulled clear late to win with something in reserve.

With the win, Historically is 3-2-1 in 10 outings and has earned $102,265.
