Cash Control gets the money in the Grade 3 Cardinal H.

Pioneerof the Nile’s Cash Control earned her second career graded stakes victory Saturday at Churchill Downs with a commanding four-length victory in the $100,000 Cardinal H. (G3).

Rating just behind a pair of longshots for most of the 1 1/8-mile contest, Cash Control uncorked a powerful stretch kick to win going away in 1:49.39 on the firm turf (VIDEO).

“The fractions were good, they were kind of strung out a little bit, said winning trainer Brad Cox. “She was laying there third and going down the backside nobody was really on the inside or outside of her so she was able to relax, shut off and kick home. Turning for home, obviously he had a ton of horse. I was very proud of her. She was training great coming into this race and it was a big effort, very pleased with her. Did I expect her to win like that? No, but I’m sure glad that she did. Graded stakes are tough to win.”

The Cardinal Handicap snapped a three-race losing streak for Cash Control, who banked $57,660 to improve her record to 19-9-4-2 and has earned $491,794 owner/breeder Richard and Bert Klein.

Pioneerof the Nile, sire of this year’s leading 2-year-old Classic Empire, currently leads the Fourth-Crop Sire list by black type winners (8), graded stakes winners (5), and earnings (more than $6.1 million). He’s scheduled to stand next year at WinStar Farm for $110,000 live foal stands and nurses.
