Congrats 2yo wins first stakes outing

Jacaranda upped her record to 2-for-2 with front-running, 3 ½-length victory in the $250,000 Tempted S. (G3) Sunday at Aqueduct, topping a big weekend for her sire Congrats who also had the 2-year-old filly Top Decile finish second by just a half-length in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) on Saturday.

Jacaranda is the sixth stakes winner of the year for Congrats and pushed his progeny earnings for 2014 past the $5 million mark.

Jacaranda made all the running in the one mile Tempted; after dueling with Enchantress for about three furlongs, she began to pull clear and was never really threatened at any point thereafter.

Owned by Barry Schwartz and trained by Michael Hushion, Jacaranda broke her maiden at Belmont on Sept. 21. With Sunday’s $150,000 payday, she upped her lifetime total to $195,000. The filly, bred in Kentucky by Vinery, is out of the Distorted Humor mare Baffled, making her a half-sister to Florida Derby (G1) winner Constitution.
