Consumer Spending gives More Than Ready milestone 100th Graded Stakes winner

When Consumer Spending crossed the wire first in the $200,000 Wonder Again S. (G2) June 9 at Belmont Park, it marked the 3-year-old filly’s first graded stakes win and put More Than Ready in elite company of sires with at least 100 worldwide graded or group winners.

A two-time listed stakes winner prior to the Wonder Again, Consumer Spending was fourth of five 3-year-old fillies for the first six furlongs of the 1 1/8-mile trip. She was never more than three lengths from the front at any point, and when she made a sudden move for the lead just before entering the stretch, she easily swooped by the front-runners and won going away by two lengths.

“You are always looking at her saying, well it’s a More Than Ready horse and we’ve had so much luck with them over the years with horses like Rushing Fall and Uni,” said winning trainer Chad Brown. “(S)he hasn’t done anything wrong and she ran through the wire good with no target in front of her, so I have to think if she’s got someone to follow, there’s more there. So onto the Belmont Oaks.”

Owned by the Klaravich Stables, Inc. Consumer Spending sold for $200,000 at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Select Yearlings sale. Her record stands at 4-1-0 in six starts, with earnings of $350,000.

Bred by Forging Oaks Farm, Consumer Spending is out of Siempre Mia, who is also responsible for a yearling full sister to the winner.
