Convict wins debut as Constitution 25th First-Crop winner

Convict repelled all his challengers in winning his career bow Dec. 5 at Aqueduct, taking the six-furlong maiden special weight race by a neck over More Graytful (VIDEO).

The 2-year-old colt is the 25th winner for his first-year sire, who leads all freshman sires in North America by winners, wins (30), graded stakes winners (4), and graded stakes horses (8).

Convict broke very well from post six and had the lead in a matter of strides. He shook clear from Tiz Kaz Now after a quarter-mile, quickly put away Advance Strategy soon after, then dueled through the stretch with More Graytful to get the distance in 1:10.76 on a “good” main track.

The winner, bred by Thomas Mina, sold for $180,000 at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Spring 2-year-old sale. Convict is owned by Leonard Green.
