Distorted Humor gets 17th SH of ’13

Regally bred Villanesca joined the ranks of 2013 stakes winners for her sire Distorted Humor with a come-from-behind, half-length triumph in Friday’s $100,000 Magnolia Jackson S. at Belmont Park.

Distorted Humor now has 17 stakes horses, 7 stakes winners, and over $3 million in progeny earnings this year. His 2013 graded stakes winners include Boisterous (G2 Monmouth S.), Jimmy Creed (G2 Potrero Grande S.), and Laugh Track (G3 Vigil S.).

Four-year-old Villanesca got bumped around at the break, but recovered quickly to be just two lengths off the lead along the rail after a quick quarter mile in :22.67. Joel Rosario took his mount three wide coming into the stretch for his run at the leaders. Villanesca steadily gained ground to take command in deep stretch, getting to the wire in 1:16.45 for the 6 1/2-furlongs on a “fast” track.

Villanesca is out of Balletto (UAE), winner of the Grade 1 Frizette S. and $1,151,850. The Darley Stable homebred filly now has earned $187,500, with four wins in seven starts.
