WinStar Farm’s and Blazing Meadows Farm’s homebred 2-year-old colt Fair and Square won his stakes debut on July 22 with a two-length victory in the $75,000 Hoover S. at Belterra Park (WATCH RACE).
The chestnut colt, who was coming off a 5 ¼-length maiden win on June 29, broke alertly then got shuffled back to third in the early stages. Taken three-wide on the turn, Fair and Square was less than a length from the lead at the top of the stretch. He resolutely wore down Grand Isle in the final furlong to finish the 5 ½-furlongs in 1:05.52 on a fast track.
Fair and Square has now won two of his three starts and earned $72,040.
Fair and Square is by Super Saver and is the first foal out of the stakes-placed Drosselmeyer mare Marathon. Among Marathon’s siblings is Diamond Dust, who also won the Hoover S., one of his four career black type wins. Fair and Square’s fourth dam Danseur Fabuleux is the dam of European Horse of the Year and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile S. (G1) winner Arazi.
