WinStar Farm’s Audible, the 2018 Florida Derby (G1) winner by Into Mischief, sired his first reported foal when a filly was born at Waldorf Farm in North Chatham, New York, on Sunday night, Jan. 10. Bred by Fred Hertrich III and John Fielding, the filly is out of the Malibu Moon mare Turning Tide and hails from the family of multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Emollient and stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Hofburg.
“We’re thrilled to have the first Audible foal,” said Rob Tribbett, Hertrich’s bloodstock manager. “He is a stallion we were very keen on as a racehorse and invested in him as a stallion accordingly. We think Audible has a great chance to be a successful stallion and we look forward to seeing our foals develop.”
One of the most consistent 3-year-olds of his generation, Audible was never off the board in five stakes with three stakes wins in his sophomore season for owners WinStar Farm, China Horse Club, Starlight Racing, and Head of Plains Partners and trainer Todd Pletcher.
Audible captured the $350,000 Holy Bull S. (G2) at Gulfstream Park in his stakes and three-year-old debut and earned a berth in the Kentucky Derby (G1) with an eye-catching performance in winning the $1,000,000 Florida Derby by a dominant three lengths in his next start. He then finished third in the $2,000,000 Kentucky Derby to eventual Triple Crown winner Justify after being repeatedly blocked and altering course in the stretch. Audible retired with earnings of $2,130,520 and was a winner in five of 10 lifetime starts.
A $500,000 Fasig-Tipton March sale graduate, Audible was bred by Oak Bluff Stables and descends from a deep female family that traces directly to multiple Grade 1 winner and Graded stakes producer Classy Cathy. A complete outcross in his first five generations, Audible was the most popular first-year sire ever at WinStar, having covered 218 mares in his first book. He is standing the 2021 breeding season for $22,500 S&N.
