Gemologist colt tops early returns Tuesday at F-T October

A $290,000 colt by Gemologist topped the returns mid-way through the Tuesday session of the Oct. 24-26 Fasig-Tipton Yearling sale at the central Kentucky auction house.

Four Star Sales, agent, consigned hip No. 561, which went to prominent buyer Mike Ryan, agent. The Kentucky-bred colt, the third foal out of Starlicious, is a half-brother to a pair of multiple winners. Starlicious is a half-sister to stakes winner Really Crafty, out of Locust Grove S. winner Chez Chez Chez.

Currently ranked second on the 2016 First Crop Sire list, Gemologist’s stellar freshman crop includes Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) hopeful Yellow Agate, winner of the Frizette S. (G1), as well as potential Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) starter Theory, recent winner of the Futurity S. (G3) at Belmont Park.
