Making her debut Saturday at Del Mar, Morganite turned in a professional-looking performance to best a field of 10 2-year-old fillies by 1 1/2-lengths.
The bay daughter of Gemologist won the five furlong contest in a very solid :58.13, stalking in second before surging to the front in the final quarter mile, easily holding off favorite Champagne Room in the final furlong (VIDEO).
The winner was bred in Kentucky by Jay Goodwin and Chip Montgomery. She is one of five winners out of Crazy Woman Creek, whose half-sister is the multiple stakes winner Pink Poppy.
Morganite was a $360,000 purchase by L.E.B. at this year’s OBS March 2-year-old Sale.
