Gemologist first-timer scores in thriller at Belmont Park

Yellow Agate came rolling in the stretch to tally a half-length victory in a six-furlong maiden special weight affair for 2-year-old fillies Sunday at Belmont Park.

The daughter of Gemologist is the third winner in four days for her sire, who has eight first-crop graduates overall, fourth-most for all Freshman Sires of 2016.

Yellow Agate completed the distance in a sharp 1:10.09, coming from eighth after a half-mile and making up some four lengths in mid-stretch to prove best (VIDEO).

The winner was bred in Kentucky by Marablue Farm and is trained by Christophe Clement for China Horse Club, who purchased the bay filly for $210,000 at the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling sale.
