Graded stakes double for Constitution’s Laura’s Light

Laura’s Light got her second straight graded stakes win in Saturday’s $150,000 San Clemente S. (G2) at Del Mar, giving the 3-year-old Constitution filly her third career graded victory and five wins in seven lifetime starts.

She is one of six graded stakes horses this year by Constitution, who leads the Second-Crop sire list with nearly $3 million in progeny earnings.

Much like she did in winning the May 30 Honeymoon S. (G3), Laura’s Light stalked from second for six furlongs, the powered to the lead coming into the stretch. Finishing strongly again, she bested late closer Guitty (FR) by three-quarters of a length in 1:34.16 for the mile on the firm turf.

“She can go to the lead or she can be close,” winning jockey Abel Cedillo said. “I know my filly. She’s a special filly.”

Laura’s Light is owned by Gary Barber and was bred in Kentucky by Golden Pedigree LLC. Laura’s Light is a half-sister to 2-year-old stakes winner Barry Lee, while her stakes-placed dam Light of a Star is a half-sister to multiple graded winner Summer Hit.
