Jojo Warrior shows her heels in the Grade 3 Torrey Pines S.

Jojo Warrior, already a 2014 stakes winner for her sire Pioneerof the Nile, added to her resume on Sunday with a front-running victory in the $100,000 Torrey Pines S. (G3) at Del Mar.

The 3-year-old filly had collected a win earlier this year in Santa Anita’s Summertime Oaks (G2) and is now 3-1-1 in six starts for owner/breeder Zayat Stables. She upped her lifetime earnings to $260,781 with Sunday’s win and helped Ahmed Zayat celebrate his birthday in style.

Jojo Warrior set all the pace in the one-mile Torrey Pines, carving out fractions of :46.69 for the half-mile and 1:11.36 for the six furlongs. Tiz Kissable made a late run, but the winner held her at bay to win by three parts of a length in 1:37.10 over the Polytrack.

Jojo Warrior is out of Carson Jen, who has been a prolific producer for Zayat. Her foals include Grade 1 Frizette S. winner A Z Warrior, Hollywood Juvenile Championship (G3) winner E Z Warrior, and four-time stakes winner J Z Warrior.

Pioneerof the Nile is North America’s leading Second-Crop sire, and is currently the only sire of his generation with over $2 million in 2014 progeny earnings.
