Keeneland September sale starts strong for Speightstown

Monday’s first session of the Sept. 10-23 Keeneland Yearling sale saw big returns for Speightstown almost immediately when hip No. 3 went for a winning bid of $600,000.

Anderson Farms, Agent consigned the colt, which went to Winchell Thoroughbreds. The bay juvenile’s dam, Halo Verse, has three runners, all winners, topped by track record-setter and stakes winner Inflexibility and the Grade 2-placed colt Fundamental. This is also the same family as the champion filly Ashado and Grade 1 winner Sunriver.

Speightstown’s offspring continued to be a hot commodity early in the session when hip No. 10, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, went to Shadwell Estate Company for $450,000. The filly is from the family of champions Kitten’s Joy and Dreaming of Anna.

The next lot through the ring, hip No. 11, another Speightstown filly sold for $310,000 to Mike Ryan, agent from the Bedouin Bloodstock consignment. She is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Killer Graces and multiple graded stakes winner Chocolate Ride.

Speightstown’s average on the day from the five lots sold was $317,000. He has a total of 43 lots in this year’s catalog.
