Laoban filly bounds to double-digit win in career debut

Breakfastatbonnies scored a powerhouse 11 1/4-length victory in her first lifetime start on Jan. 2 at Aqueduct.

The 3-year-old kicked off the year in style for her sire Laoban, who finished 2020 as the leading First-Crop sire by graded stakes winners and black type winners, and second by progeny earnings, with $1,559,748.

Forwardly-placed under her own power early on, Breakfastatbonnies forced the issue on the turn and took over after a half-mile. She pulled away easily in the stretch and left the field well behind in the final furlong.

The winner is owned by Jonathan Thorne and was bred by Sequel Thoroughbreds and Lakland Farm. Breakfastatbonnies is out of Right Prevails, a full sister to Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up Closing Argument.
