Laoban makes big splash with first Breeders’ Cup contingent

Laoban, WinStar’s latest addition to the stallion roster, is poised to add to his very impressive First-Crop results with three entries in this week’s Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland.

Laoban has a pair of colts in the $2 million Juvenile (G1) and one in the $2 million Juvenile Fillies (G1).

Simply Ravishing will start things off in the Juvenile Fillies, race 8 at 3:50 p.m. The undefeated filly drew post one in the field of seven going 1 1/16-miles. Simply Ravishing has been stellar in her three starts, breaking her maiden going two turns on the grass at Saratoga, the winning the P. G. Johnson S. by 6 1/2-lengths sprinting on the main track. She went back to routing for Keeneland’s Alcibiades S. (G1) by a similar margin.

The bay filly has won $304,600, proving a bargain for her $50,000 yearling purchase price. She is owned by Hal Lerner LLC, Magdalena Racing and Nehoc Stables and was bred by Meg Levy.

In the 14-horse Juvenile, race 10 at 5:15 p.m., Laoban’s duo of Keepmeinmind and Dreamer’s Disease drew posts 6 and 10, respectively. Keepmeinmind, owned and bred by Southern Equine Stables, is still a maiden after two starts, but was most recently a clear second in the Breeders’ Futurity (G1), run over the same track and distance at the Juvenile.

Dreamer’s Disease has wins on both the turf and dirt. Like Keepmeinmind, he was bred by Southern Equine and will make his first start for owners Cypress Creek LLC and Arnold Bennewith. The colt’s dam Marketplace is a sister to multiple graded stakes winner Enterprising.

Currently fourth on the First-Crop sire list by progeny earnings, Laoban leads in the black type winners, black type horses and graded stakes horses categories. He will stand the 2021 season at WinStar for $25,000 S&N.
