Mind Reader takes to turf for first stakes win

Mind Reader, a 3-year-old son of Gemologist, scored by two lengths in the $100,000 Snack S. July 19 at Indiana Downs, the first turf start and stakes victory for the gray or roan sophomore.

Owned by Mike Sisk’s M and M Racing, Mind Reader was beaten just a head by Retrospection in last month’s $105,000 Hoosier Breeders’ Sophomore S. and is now 2-1-2 in seven starts overall.

Mind Reader turned the tables on Retrospection in the Snack. Both horses were in mid-pack before launching their bids with three furlongs to run. Mind Reader got the jump on his foe, going three-wide into the stretch and pulling clear in the final furlong to get the mile in 1:36.80 on the firm turf (VIDEO).

Mind Reader is Gemologist’s third stakes horse this month and his sixth overall in 2017. In his most recent auction sale, Mind Reader sold for $150,000 at the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling sale.
