More Than Ready colt sparkles in Rose Bowl S.

Mokarris’ commanding win in the Rose Bowl S. Friday at Newbury raceourse in England gave the 2-year-old More Than Ready colt his first stakes win in just his third lifetime start.

A debut winner two back at Haydock in late May, Mokarris was always positioned well in the six-furlong Rose Bowl, which is run on a straight course. Jockey Paul Hannigan sat motionless for nearly five furlongs, then when he asked the colt to run, he rocketed to the lead, winning by three lengths while eased up under the wire (VIDEO).

“I think the ground was against Mokarris at Ascot (where he was unplaced in the Grade 2 Coventry S.), as he’s a pretty good mover and looked a good horse when he won at Haydock,” commented Shadwell’s racing manager Angus Gold. “He worked like a nice horse last week and I haven’t seen a two-year-old of ours win like he did at Haydock. It’s nice to get him back on track and we’ll think about the [G2] Gimcrack [S. at York Aug. 20] and [G1] Middle Park [S. at Newmarket Sept. 24].”

Mokarris is the first foal out of the listed winner Limonar, who is a half-sister to last year’s GI Shoemaker Mile S. winner Talco (Fr).

Mokarris marks the 18th black type winners worldwide this year for More Than Ready, while his progeny have earned more than $9.8 million in 2016.
