Mr. Meister sparkles on Gulfstream Park turf

Top-five First-Crop sire Bodemeister chalked up his second maiden special weight winner in two days on Sunday when the regally-bred Mr. Meister scored by 1 1/2-lengths over Gorgeous Kitten on the Gulfstream Park turf course.

Owned by his breeder Irving Cowan, Mr. Meister looked like a winner throughout the 7 1/2-furlong affair for 2-year-olds, racing just off the hip of Gorgeous Kitten until he pulled even with the pacesetter  at the top of the lane. After tussling for about a furlong, Mr. Meister forged to the front to get to the wire in 1:30.90 on the firm turf.

Mr. Meister’s deep female family traces back to his third dam Hollywood Wildcat, the Champion 3-year-old filly of 1993 who won three Grade 1 events. Her foals include brilliant Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) winner War Chant and stakes winners Ministers Wild Cat and Double Cat.

Mr. Meister is Bodemeister’s 13th winner from his superlative first crop, a group that includes a pair of stakes winners and the Grade 1-placed Royal Copy.
