National Flag cruises in Saratoga MdSpWt win

Red-hot sire Speightstown got his third 2-year-old maiden special weight winner of the prestigious Saratoga meet on Aug. 5 when National Flag overcame a rough trip to win his six-furlong contest by 1 ¼-lengths (VIDEO).

Owned by WinStar Farm, China Horse Club and SF Racing Group, National Flag got the victory despite a three-wide trip around the turn, then getting repeatedly bumped by Engage in the stretch before pulling away in the final strides to get the distance in a very solid 1:10.35 and earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 81.

Bred by Siena Farm, National Flag is out of Date to Remember, who is a half-sister to Pimlico Special (G1) winner Eddington.

Speightstown is one of a select few stallions to account for more than 100 winners this year, with 103 to date. He is also in the top 10 on the General Sire list by stakes winners (10) and stakes horses (12).
