Levante Lion is now a perfect 2-for-2 following the 2-year-old son of Pioneerof the Nile’s victory in the July 23 Hakodate Nisai S. (G3) going five furlongs on the turf at Hakodate Race Course.
Winner of a maiden race over the same course and distance a month ago, the dark bay Kentucky-bred won her first stakes start by a half-length in 1:09 1/5 over a field of 15 other 2-year-olds.
Levante Lion was bred by Hargus Sexton, Sandra Sexton, Tom Bozarth & Silver Fern Farm LLC and is out of the Ghostzapper mare Ghostly Darkness.
Levante Lion is owned by Lion Race Horse Co. Ltd. She is Ghostly Darkness’ first foal and sold to her owner for $150,000 at the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling sale.
Pioneerof the Nile is the leading Fourth-Crop Sire of 2016 with six graded stakes winners, topped by Shoemaker S. (G1) and Eddie Read S. (G2) winner Midnight Storm.
