Roy H headed to Breeders’ Cup after Santa Anita Sprint Championship (G1) victory

More Than Ready’s Roy H became the 23rd worldwide Grade 1 winner for his sire on Saturday with a stellar performance in the $300,000 Santa Anita Sprint Championship S. (G1), winning the six-furlong contest by one length in 1:08.68, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 110.

More Than Ready has nine graded stakes winner this year alone, and now has a total of 80 lifetime.

Roy H, who won the True North H. (G2) with a 111 Beyer in June, was just as impressive on Saturday, stalking the pace set by American Anthem, then making a bold three-wide move to take the lead and pulling clear of Mr. Hinx in the final furlong to secure the win.

“This was very rewarding,” said trainer Peter Miller, who sent Roy H out to a second place finish as the favorite in the Bing Crosby S. (G1) July 29 at Del Mar. “We thought he was the best horse in the Bing Crosby. It was racing luck that day. Hopefully we get to see this (type of performance) again in the Breeders’ Cup.”

Saturday’s race was part of the Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” series, guaranteeing Roy H a spot in the starting gate for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1), as well as paying his entry fees.

Roy H races in the name of Rockingham Ranch and David Bernsen and is now 5-4-1 in 16 starts, with earnings of $534,765.

Roy H was bred by Ramona Bass, who earned $40,000 from the WinStar Incentive Network program.
