Runhappy aims for second straight Breeders’ Cup victory

Super Saver’s 2015 Champion Sprinter and Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) winner Runhappy returns in this year’s Breeders’ Cup on Nov. 4-5 at Santa Anita Park.

Runhappy will try to join a small and select group that has won two different Breeders’ Cup races when he starts in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1), race 7 on Nov. 4. the $1 million Mile drew a field of 11, with four of the pre-entries cross-entered in other events. 

Runhappy shot to stardom last year with stellar wins in the King’s Bishop S. (G1) and Phoenix S. (G3) prior to his Breeders’ Cup win. He capped his championship season with a win in the Malibu S. (G1) at Santa Anita. Owned by Jim McIngvale, Runhappy has won seven of nine starts and earned $1,486,250.

Super Saver is the leading cumulative Third-Crop sires in several categories, including his trio of Grade 1 winners Runhappy, Competitive Edge and Embellish the Lace.

Official post positions for the Breeders’ Cup will be drawn on Oct. 31.
